Dreamy Evening Dresses

What do you picture when you think of your perfect evening dress?  Lots of sequins, sweeping skirts, the paparazzi snapping Hollywood film stars as they step onto the red carpet at a film premiere? Perhaps a chic little black dress with discreet embellishments?
Well, fashion trends for the autumn of 2012 have all of that and much, much more!  Starting with the little black dress, Geri Halliwell’s collection for Next has some great twists on that timeless classic amongst evening dresses.   Add sequins, a daring above-the-knee hemline, a plunging décolletage below a see-through tucker, and you have a wonderfully eye-catching variation on the theme.  Or her black one-sleeve embellished dress, with a bodice and neckline cut on the diagonal, and a flowing sleeve, for real originality.

Sequins and glitter are all over the most glamorous designs for evening wear, and new fabrics have seen the fashion catwalks sparkling with metallic golds, silvers and purples.  If you’re feeling adventurous, then you might take a leaf out of the Paris autumn collections, and go for a deep autumnal orange floor-length evening dress with a strappy bodice and matching evening coat. Perhaps you might go for a gleaming metallic purple slinky fishtailed gown, cut low at the neckline, with crossover straps to embellish an otherwise plain bodice. Look out for these on the high street, as the transition from catwalk to fashion store tends to be lightning fast these days.
All women love lace, and there are some fabulously feminine versions of lace evening dresses amongst the collections for autumn and winter.  Amy Childs’ collection is a great example of how to team the softest dove grey or black lace with palest pink to create a vintage-inspired knee-length pencil dress that’s the ultimate in desirability.
And when picturing your next purchase for that special dinner-dance or formal do, remember to plan for how you will accessorise your glamorous gown.  Celebs are choosing little clutch bags spangled with sequins, or decorated with outrageously blowsy silk flowers to match the colours of their dress, while jewellery is kept creative but simple.  Thick twists of silver rope necklace look fantastic with the latest metallic evening dresses, or long jet bead necklaces over demure lace gowns
