Personal Pronouns 2013: Beth Keener Fashion Brand Launch Event&(Runway Presentation )
The Byrne Gallery is proud to present Personal Pronouns 2013: Beth KeenerFashion Brand Launch Event. Visual Artist & Fashion Designer, Beth Keener is thevisionary, creative force, and namesake behind the brand (www.bethkeener.com).She works to create pieces that give women, who love what she loves, the ability tocarry and wear something stylishly unique and artfully designed. Her one-of-a-kindwearable art clutches are extremely popular, but only the beginning for the brand.Personal Pronouns 2013 is an introduction into the body of her work as an artist, designer, and art historian all within one space. The body of work provides neithernew biographical, nor archival facts, about her as a female artist. Instead, it isentirely dependent upon the viewer to “reframe” the story. As an art historian, her research has yielded that there can be many problems when one is confrontedwith the question of how to “name.” In a sea of fine art vs. commercialism, wheredoes her work fall? Thus, to explore the most appropriate title, she chose to pull herinspiration from American conceptual artist, Barbara Kruger’s use of text. Barbara isknown for including personal pronouns, such as, “you, your, I, we, and they.”With a clear understanding of whom Beth is indebted to, she is hopeful that theviewer will be able to examine the underlying feminine theme of her as an artist, and as a woman, in a very traditional sense, and juxtapose that thought against theworlds of fine art and fashion. This body of work, and new line of fashion, is merelyan extension of that fabulous process and of her own Personal Pronouns.Personal Pronouns 2013 will be held in the SONA Bank Building (across the streetfrom the Byrne Gallery) at 10 West Washington Street, Middleburg, VA. This event isopen to the public and everyone is invited to attend. For more information contactthe Byrne Gallery at (540) 687-6986.
